Sandcastles is an environmental art project by artist Sophia Siossios.
Going from beach to beach picking up debris brought in from the tide and litter left by visitors. It's part art and part awareness.
Putting into perspective the current reality with waste on our beaches and in our seas.
'The tide brings in so much rubbish at my local beach I was inspired to make art with it. Instead of assemblage I decided to make site-specific works, incorporating waste within sandcastles.'
Documentation is an important aspect of these works, reflecting the actuality of one of our environmental issues.
All rubbish collected was put into bins.
Currently Sophia Siossios is curating an exhibition featuring polluted postcards selected from an international open call.
